TI REMEMBER WHO 'WAS ...?

The memory of the facts of Fountain Square should be a heritage collective well-planted in the minds and hearts of all Italians. Yet, especially among younger people, the knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the horrific massacre of December 12, 1969 is by no means a foregone conclusion.

Behind this unawareness there are only so many lies and false leads that for years have guaranteed impunity for the murderers and their accomplices, but there are also old and new revision of history, the speculations of those who want to confuse the public to sow ignorance and suppress the critical spirit.

That was a massacre of Piazza Fontana status. The extreme right and fascist Italian intelligence services work closely to massacre 17 people and wounded 88. This was the first major terrorist attack (already preceded by other provocations like) who inaugurated the strategy of tension. In a time of great ferment of Italian society (think of the student protests, struggles of workers and the profound cultural change in the country), the state's response had to be tough and ruthless: create a traumatic event, terrorize the public, to find a scapegoat and criminalize the social opposition, stifling freedom through authoritarian turn .

For this massacre were immediately blamed the anarchists. Giuseppe Pinelli, an anarchist comrade who was working the railroad, was interrogated for three days in a row. On the evening of December 15 was thrown from the window of the office of commissioner Luigi Calabresi, the fourth floor of police headquarters in Milan. Pinelli was innocent, and the anarchists with the bomb had nothing to do.

counter-campaign launched by the anarchists, the extra-parliamentary left and influential figures of culture and journalism in our country almost immediately was able to establish the facts: the bomb had put the fascists on behalf of the state. Even now, after forty years, has never come to this legal truth though - between the lines of various judgments - have repeatedly raised the responsibility and complicity of the state apparatus and manpower fascist.

Violence is a thing of the institutions with which all citizens make a decision every day when you are confronted with the arrogance of those who enjoy the privileges and power and impunity. And then there are abuses and murders in the prisons, violence in detention centers for immigrants, the crap of politicians, harassment by the police, armies fighting wars.

After forty years, the script is always the same: when institutions are in crisis, the authoritarian temptation is becoming more real: today, the strategy of tension is the militarization of the streets, in the campaigns of hatred against the poor and immigrants in the repression of dissent and struggles in the gag to information, in the attack on freedom.

remember why it is important to never stop fighting for a society freer and more just who can do without the power and its violence.
